The Bird That Loves Bombs
CHARACTER INFORMATION
Name: Bean
Nicknames: N/A
Race: Woodpecker
(Yes. Contrary to popular belief, Bean is not a Duck)
Gender: Male
Age: 15 years of age
Date of Birth: Unknown
Birthplace: Unknown
Height: ~157 centimeters (5'2")
(This has been stated in an official source but if Heavy Magician's illusory Bean is anything to go by, he seems to be of equal height to Classic Sonic. So perhaps around 76.5cm [2'05'']?)
Weight: Unknown
(Speculation: Bean is a bird. Which suggests that he has a relatively low body weight. A good estimate would 28 to 34 kilograms [62 to 74 lbs].)
Ability Type: N/A (Probably Power)
Alignment: N/A
Physical Techniques: N/A
Abilities and Aptitude:
(1). Bean definitely knows how to use his beak when it comes to pecking. Once you're caught in a flurry of pecks from this Woodpecker, you're not likely to escape the incredibly harsh onslaught.
Hobbies and Talents:
(1). Bean wields explosives and bombs and he definitely knows how to use them. Whatever risk is taken, or however big the range of the bomb's explosion, there is no doubt Bean will be happy to see it and just as happy to see it go BOOM.
(2). Bean is a big fan of Soccer. This may explain why he incorporates kicking his bombs into his skillset.
Weaknesses: No known weaknesses.
Physical Appearance:
Attire:
Items & Weapons: Has a virtually endless supply of large cherry bombs
Vehicle(s): N/A
Personality Details: Bean's personality is actually quite unclear. His debut game didn't really give him much of a description. We don't even know if he is undoubtedly a good guy or a bad guy. Warning posters bearing his visage that are present in some locations in Sonic's world imply that he is potentially dangerous however. He probably has a wild personality and that his solution to pretty much anything is to blow it up.
Historical Biography:
Bean the Dynamite came along upon hearing about the fighting tournament Tails started in order to decide which hero should be chosen to use the Chaos Emeralds and fly into outer space to destroy Eggman's new Death Egg II. The rocket Tails built was only a one-seater and required the Chaos Emeralds to operate. All of them at the time were distributed among quite a few residents of Earth; one of which was Bean the Dynamite, who had the green Chaos Emerald.
Bean's constant barrage of bombs on his opponents got him quite far, but in the end, Sonic managed to take both Eggman and the rebuilt Metal Sonic out for the count, thus saving the world again. Bean the Dynamite has been seen only rarely ever since, but it's likely you can find him at the Dynamite Plant where he was fought.
Personal Information:
Family: Bin (Of Dynamite Dux fame) is his father. It is unknown who his mother is.
Greatest Friend(s): Unknown.
Other Friend(s): Unknown.
Rival(s): N/A
Foe(s): Dr. Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik and Metal Sonic.
Likes: BOMBS. (And Soccer.)
Dislikes: Unknown.
Favorite Food(s): Unknown.
Favorite Color(s): Unknown.
Occupation: N/A
Place of Residence: Unknown. Dynamite Plant Zone perhaps?
GAME INFORMATION
Franchise Name: Bean the Dynamite
Original Purpose: Supporting role in Sonic the Fighters.
Current Purpose: N/A, character is scrapped outside of cameos and usage in side material.
Date of first promotion/presence in the industry: Bean's debut in the industry came along with the release of the Arcade title, Sonic the Fighters, released first in Japan on June of 1996.
Years in Service: 26 years, thanks to Archie and IDW. Whether that's good or bad is up to you, honestly.
Likelihood of a possible return: Low. Bean was given barely any statistics in Sonic the Fighters. In spite of his unusually good amount of cameo appearances, he is still quite unknown, and at this point in the franchise, superfluous Sonic character. He probably won't be making a return in any form other than cameos.
Original Designer: Masahiro Sugiyama
Design Process: Unconfirmed. Bean's design process was probably similar to how all of the others were made. Many design sketches were made and Bean was chosen. Simple as that.
Possible Design Inspirations: Bean's most obvious design inspiration is Dynamite Dux: a 1988 Arcade game involving the two pet duck brothers, Bin & Pin, on their zany adventures to rescue Lucy, their human owner. Bin & Pin were armed with an assemblage of techniques at their disposal to help them throughout their journey including a volley of physical maneuvers and of course a bunch of bombs.
Bean the Dynamite was obviously inspired by these two ducks, not only because of his striking resemblance and comparable name but also because the original Bin (the blue duck) is an alternate costume of Bean's in Fighters Megamix and is in fact his father.

Personal character analysis/commentary (by Vertekins):
Bean is pretty shallow as far as Sonic characters go as far as I'm concerned. There is so little revealed about his personality, hobbies and quirks and the way he is portrayed in spin-off media and later the games actually makes me rather confused as to what SEGA want to do with him. I always presumed that he was a good guy in Fighters due to seemingly volunteering to stop the Death Egg Mk II and entering the tournament in order to have the opportunity to do so (Fang doesn't count as Japanese magazine articles at the time of Fighters' release confirmed he was only in the tournament to steal the Chaos Emeralds). So his apparent turn to villainy as indicated by wanted posters in both Generations and Mania doesn't make a whole lot of sense unless you consider that this is perhaps the result of an Archie Sonic concept making its way into the games.
Personally, zany, "crazy" character sorts (Which Bean seemingly is going by his behaviour) don't tend to be very endearing to me. So personally, Bean's status as a scrapped character is not really a net loss.
