The Only Ones SEGA Wants You To Care About...
The Hero. The Villain. The world of a game often revolves around their conflict alone. Bad guy enacts dastardly plot, good guy comes along to stop bad guy, roll credits. It's a formula as old as time itself, mainly because it works.
Now, it can be argued that all a game needs is A hero and A villain for its cast and that literally anyone else would be useless fodder (which is certainly what critics seem to think regarding this particular series). It can also be argued that a wide and diverse cast can add personality and variety to a series. Regardless of what your stance is, for the Sonic series, there is only one main hero you should really be aware of (apparently) and one villain who should have any right to oppose him (apparently).
